Our Story...We at Plano Auto Glass Repair could take a moment here to go on and on about our quality and customer service. We choose instead to provide visitors of our website a personal story from the owner of Plano Auto Glass Repair.
It all began with a rock, well, more like a small stone, okay it was more like a large pebble but it was enough to crack Aunt May's windshield and worry her the whole drive back to the farm. I was living with them and was only about 11 years old, quietly sitting in the backseat when it happened. When we got back to the house she called my uncle George out to see and, after their homespun assessment it was time to call a repairman from town. The conversation was less than friendly in its conclusion when the repairman said he wouldn't be out for a few days but, a few days later when he arrived, all sharpness and frustration subsided. It only took him one day but I don't think I left his side for more than a minute. He chatted with me and my uncle George, answering my many questions about what he was doing. I was fascinated with his skill and proficiency and thoroughly enjoyed watching his hands skillfully replace our broken windshield. When the job was done and the "glass doctor" as I had taken to calling him was working out the final cost Aunt May and I quietly retreated to the house. Uncle George was always rather tight-fisted when it came to his money and we were expecting a blow-out but, to our surprise, as we watched from the sitting room window, there was no explosion. In fact, Uncle George seemed genuinely shocked. He smiled and shook the man's hand and joined us inside. I never forgot that day and, I must admit, the "glass doctor” became something of a superhero to me. Throughout the rest of my childhood with Aunt May and Uncle George I could often be found "playing glass doctor" on my toy trucks, continuously popping the windshields out and skillfully putting them back in. It was great fun for my 11 year old mind. In high school I still carried the same fascination and, while my friends all tried out for football, I could be found in the local body-shop, learning everything I could and, while all the girls were in home-ec class and my friends thought they were so clever for joining to be with them, I could be found in shop class. I loved working with my hands to make and fix things and my teacher said I had a promising future as a carpenter if I'd a mind for it but I never forgot that "glass doctor" and turned him down. It wasn't a surprise to anyone when I opened my own auto glass repair shop, but what did surprise everyone was that I was only 22 when it opened! The first few years were rough and, several times, I thought I'd have to close down but I always strove to provide friendly service, quality work and reasonable prices and that's what kept me afloat. Years have gone by and now my son and grandson work with me in the shop. We have an established customer base and new inquiries every day. We will provide friendly service, quality work and reasonable prices and with every job I complete, I remember the "glass doctor", the man who started it all. |
